Mission

YouthBuild Trumbull County is an initiative designed to unleash the positive

energy of underserved young people in Trumbull County.  It is our intention

to develop the young people in our program into positive, responsible, and

contributing members of our community.  We will do this by stressing the

importance of education while providing leadership development and

job-training.  We believe that the youth will not just rebuild their communities,

 but also rebuild their lives.

Education

Participants are assisted to create their own learning program to meet individual goals.

The curriculum is designed to promote interactive learning and hands on experience.

The learning opportunities include high school diploma/GED preparation, mathematics,

computer based learning in specialized areas and money management/entrepreneurial

training.  Upon obtainment of diploma or GED participants will receive a $500 bonus.

 Leadership Development

The Leadership component will focus on soft skills such as work habits, dedication,

human potential, conflict resolution, self-esteem, goal setting and anger

management.  Developing these skills will create positive change in the participants

lives, with their families, the program, and the community.

Construction

The construction component consists of on site and classroom occupational training that

will include but not be limited to carpentry, painting, plumbing, residential electricity,

HVAC, concrete work, flooring/carpet installation, furnace installation, roofing and all

related areas.  The trainees will spend half of their time in the classroom and half of their

time in applying what they have learned via work experience. Upon program completion

graduates will be certified in the construction field by the National Center for

Construction Education and Research.

Follow Up

Follow up activities will be provided for a minimum of 12 months subsequent to the

completion of the program.  A Job Placement Specialist and staff will be on site to offer

and assist the participants in a variety of services.  Program alumni receive supportive

service referrals, instruction on resume building, job coaching, vocational evaluation,

group counseling, job placement assistance, post-secondary guidance and One Stop

referrals/participation.
